Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 August 2026
Summary
Offline Emergency Toolkit is an offline-first Android app. Your emergency contacts and medical information are stored on your device. We do not operate a server that holds your personal data, and there is no account to create.
This policy covers both the Android app and this website. Where something does leave your device, it is listed explicitly below rather than summarised away.
Data stored on your device
The following is stored locally by the app and never transmitted to us:
- Emergency contacts you have saved
- Medical information: blood type, allergies, medications, conditions, donor status
- App preferences
- Cached map tiles
You can remove all of it at any time through Android Settings → Apps → Emergency Toolkit → Storage → Clear data. There is no deletion request to submit, because there is no copy anywhere else.
This data is held in the app's private storage area, which Android isolates from other apps and protects with device encryption when you have a screen lock set. It is not additionally encrypted at the application level.
What leaves your device
SOS messages
When you activate SOS, the app sends an SMS through your mobile carrier to the contacts you chose. It contains your GPS coordinates and, if you entered it, your medical information. These messages go from your phone number to theirs. We never see, receive or store them.
Location
The app reads your GPS position to attach coordinates to SOS messages, show your position on the location and map screens, and record a location trail while an SOS is active. Location is accessed only while you are using those features. It is not sent to us and it is not shared with third parties.
Map tiles
The offline maps feature downloads tiles from OpenStreetMap servers. As with any web request, those include your IP address and a user-agent string. No personal information is attached. Once an area is cached, viewing it makes no further requests.
Advertising
The app displays banner ads on non-emergency screens through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect data as described in Google's privacy policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Android Settings → Google → Ads. Ads are never shown on the SOS or flashlight screens.
Permissions the app requests
Each is requested at the point you first use the relevant feature, never at install. Declining one disables that feature and nothing else.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION | GPS coordinates for SOS, the location screen and map position. |
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION | Approximate location when precise GPS is unavailable. |
SEND_SMS | Sends emergency alerts and “I’m Safe” check-ins to your contacts. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Shows the lock-screen SOS notification, if you enable it. |
VIBRATE | Haptic feedback during the SOS countdown. |
INTERNET | Map tile downloads and advertising. |
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID | Advertising ID, required by AdMob on Android 13+. |
The app does not request camera permission. The flashlight uses Android's torch API, which controls the LED without camera access. The app cannot see through your camera. It also does not request access to your contacts — emergency contacts are chosen through the Android system picker, which hands the app only the single contact you select.
What we do not collect
- No account, login or profile
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDK inside the app
- No personal data sent to servers we control — we operate none for user data
- No address book upload
- No location history transmitted off your device
This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies of its own and has no login, comment system or contact form.
This deployment has Google Analytics enabled, configured with IP anonymisation. It records page views and clicks on install buttons so we can tell which pages are useful. You can block it with any content blocker without affecting the site.
Install buttons link out to Google Play. Once you follow one, Google's privacy policy applies to what happens there.
Children
This app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change. Because the app stores nothing on our side, changes here concern what the app does on your device rather than what we hold.
